These licenses are designed to promote open scholarship by clearly specifying the rights granted to the public while preserving author attribution and academic integrity. Authors may select from the following Creative Commons licensing options, depending on their preference for reuse and distribution:

Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY): The CC BY license is the most open and flexible Creative Commons license. It permits others to copy, distribute, display, perform, adapt, and build upon the published work for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s). This license maximizes the visibility, accessibility, and reuse potential of research and is widely recommended by funding bodies, academic institutions, and open access mandates. CC BY supports innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration by allowing derivative works while ensuring clear attribution to the author.

Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial (CC BY-NC): The CC BY-NC license allows others to reuse, share, and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes only, provided that proper attribution is given to the author(s). While the work remains openly accessible, commercial exploitation is restricted without the author’s explicit permission. This license is suitable for authors who wish to encourage academic and educational reuse of their work while retaining greater control over its commercial application.

Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND): The CC BY-NC-ND license is the most restrictive option offered. It allows users to download and share the published work only in its original form, for non-commercial purposes, with full attribution to the author(s). No modifications, adaptations, or derivative works are permitted under this license. This option is appropriate for authors who wish to ensure broad access to their research while preserving the integrity of the original work and limiting reuse beyond verbatim sharing.
