Copyright Law Essentials: Protecting Creativity in the Digital Era

ABSTRACT In today’s rapidly growing economy, the increasing pace of digitalization across countries has transformed the way creative works are created, shared and accessed. Along with the increase in innovation and economic growth have also led to significant concerns regarding copyright law and the protection of one’s exclusive rights. Copyright law is one of the most vital branches of Intellectual Property. It protects the original work of the author such as literary, musical, dramatic work, digital work and so on. Copyright is an important area of law, unlike patents and trademarks which protects invention, brand names and logos, copyright protects the original expression of an idea instead of the idea itself. In today’s digital world due to the rapid growth of the internet, artificial intelligence, online streaming and content sharing, the need for copyright law has become important as it not only protects creators from unauthorized use of their innovative work, but also provides creators with huge opportunities. This article discusses the importance and basic essentials of copyright law, the rights of the creator along with the challenges posed by new technology and the Indian legal framework.
